History

Eric and Sharon Sutton created Transplants for Children in 1986, in response to their young son’s need for a liver transplant. At the time, no agency existed in Bexar County to offer financial assistance, counseling or emotional support to families who were in need of a transplant. After raising money, little Richard soon received his transplant, but lost in his fight for life due to complications after surgery. Although they endured the tragedy of losing their son, the Suttons were inspired to honor his memory by creating an organization dedicated to assisting families in managing the daily challenges and struggles of undergoing transplantation.

TFC has continued to assist young transplant recipients and their families since 1986. The organization provides educational programs and supportive services that help children, adolescents, and families overcome the tremendous emotional and financial struggle associated with transplantation.
